Safe Action for the Environment Inc. was founded in 1999 in response to the proposed sand and gravel mine in Soledad Canyon.
SAFE, a nonprofit public benefit corporation, is committed to maintaining safe air, safe water and safe roads. The organization and its volunteers have devoted thousands of hours to the effort to prevent a massive sand and gravel mine from being developed in Soledad Canyon, just outside Santa Clarita, Calif. For nearly a decade and a half, SAFE has worked closely in cooperation with the City of Santa Clarita, other local civic and leadership organizations, and other government agencies and elected representatives.
